Lorain Schools Cross Country

The Lorain High School Titans opened their cross country season at the Keystone Icebreaker, taking on a stacked field of Northeast Ohio programs including Rittman, Steele, Buckeye, Avon, and Cloverleaf, among others, over the 5000-meter course.

Girls Team Highlights

The Titans girls squad turned in a strong showing, headlined by personal bests from two of the team's top runners.

Melanie Verdin led the way for Lorain, crossing the line in 24:41.50 to finish 67th overall — a personal best performance that puts her firmly among the program's top returners this season.

Right behind her, Viviana Chavez also notched a personal best, finishing in 28:20.00 for 119th place. Chavez's improvement continues a trend of steady progress for the senior, in her first year running cross.

Madison Martin rounded out the Titans' scorers, placing 123rd with a time of 28:58.30, giving Lorain three finishers in the girls race.

Boys Team Highlights

On the boys' side, the Titans were led by senior Abimelec Rivera, who finished 100th overall in 20:34.30, setting the pace for his teammates on a challenging course.

Sophomore J'Marion DeWitt — fresh off a strong freshman year — continued to show promise on the cross country course, finishing 150th in 22:32.10.

Junior Cameron Green completed the Titans' boys scoring, crossing in 26:10.10 for 207th place.

Looking Ahead

With personal bests already on the board for Verdin and Chavez, and a young core of runners like DeWitt gaining early-season experience, Lorain Cross Country will look to build momentum as the fall schedule continues.
