Few people have done more to promote and spotlight the accomplishments of student-athletes from Lorain schools than Jim Popiel.

As a teacher at Admiral King High School for more than 40 years, and as a radio announcer on WEOL and WOBL/WDLW, Jim Popiel (aka Jim Allen) encouraged student–athletes, touted their accomplishments and kept the Lorain County community informed about those students.

The Lorain High Athletic Booster Club established the Jim Popiel Foundation in 2018 to recognize and honor the contributions of Jim Popiel.

Cora and Fola each received $1,500 scholarship, and Abby and Caiden each received $2,500 scholarship.
