April 4, 2026 | Avon Lake High School, Avon Lake, Ohio — The Lorain Titans traveled to Avon Lake for one of the region's most competitive early-season invitationals, and left with personal bests, a girls event winner, and plenty of momentum heading into the heart of the 2026 outdoor season. Both the boys and girls squads delivered strong performances across track and field, with several athletes announcing themselves as ones to watch this spring.
Girls Highlights
The story of the day on the girls' side belonged to junior Autumn Roberts, who made a statement in the hurdles. Roberts won the 100M hurdles outright — claiming first place with a personal best of 16.48 — and backed it up with an eighth-place finish in the 300M hurdles in 52.23 (PB). She didn't stop there, also contributing in the long jump (10th, 13' 9" PB) and as a leg of two relay squads. On a roster full of hardworking athletes, Roberts was the clear standout of the meet.
Throwing standout senior Brajhia Phillips had one of the best days of her career in the field events. Phillips finished 5th in the shot put with a season best of 33' 8.25" and followed that with a 7th place finish in the discus at 99' 6" — a season's best. The senior is rounding into form at exactly the right time of year.
Junior Viviana Chavez continued to prove her value as one of Lorain's most versatile athletes, posting personal bests in both the 200M (27.78, 6th place) and the 400M (1:04.78, 11th place). Chavez also served as an anchor leg on relay squads throughout the afternoon.
Junior J'Me Hood had a multi-event day of her own, placing 5th in the 100M hurdles (18.28 PB) and clearing 4' 0" for 13th in the high jump (PB) and running on the relays. Fellow Junior Ava Miller set a season's best of 14 feet 5 inches to finish 8th in the event.
In the distance events, junior Elizabeth Ruic competed in both the 800M (16th, 2:54.31 PB) and the 1600M (17th, 6:35.08 PB), while junior Melanie Verdin logged finishes in the 1600M (19th, 6:46.57 PB) and 3200M (15th, 15:03.88). Freshman Elyanna Arkel made her presence known in the 300M hurdles, finishing 16th with a personal best of 56.86.
Girls Relays: The 4x100M team (Janelle Butler, Jada Hood, J'Me Hood, Karlee Patterson) placed 6th in a SB time of 55.43. The 4x200M team (Janelle Butler, J'Me Hood, Viviana Chavez, Autumn Roberts) placed 6th in another SB time of 1:53.57. The 4x400M team (Emma Bus, Elyanna Arkel, Janelle Butler, Viviana Chavez) placed 7th in another SB time of 4:52.89.
Boys Highlights
On the boys' side, the sprint and jump events produced Lorain's most eye-catching results. Sophomore Donte Tinsley II turned in one of the most impressive performances of the day, finishing 2nd in the long jump with a personal best of 20' 8.5" and placing 5th in the 200M with a personal best of 23.17. For a Sophomore competing against upperclassmen on one of the region's biggest early-season stages, it was a remarkable showing.
Junior Jazion Moore was equally dynamic, soaring to 4th in the long jump at 20' 5.75" and crossing the line 10th in the 400M with a personal best of 52.87. Moore's versatility makes him a weapon for the Titans on any given meet day.
Senior Amari Ammons turned in a solid multi-event afternoon, competing in the shot put (21st, 35' 5" PB) and discus (22nd, 91' 3"), representing Lorain in the throws throughout the day.
Junior Amarian Miller cleared 5' 8" for 8th place in the high jump — a personal best — adding a valuable field point to the team's total. Miller also ran the 100M (19th, 11.95a) and was part of relay squads throughout the day.
In the hurdles, junior Cameron Spraggins placed 10th in the 300M hurdles with a personal best of 45.28, while sophomore Amare Tidmore (20th, 20.82 PB) and sophomore Kaiden Corbin (21st, 24.55 PB) both posted personal bests in the 110M hurdles.
