February 22, 2026 - BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — It was a day to remember for the track and field program as athletes delivered a string of personal bests and one historic school record at the Dave Wottle High School Open held Saturday at Bowling Green State University.

The performance of the day came from junior Jazion Moore, who set a school record in the triple jump with a mark of 39 feet, 9 inches, good for second place in the event. What makes the feat even more remarkable is that it came in Moore's very first attempt at the event. The mark currently ranks Moore #17 in the state, with the top 16 advancing to the OHSAA State Indoor Championships on March 6, 2026 — meaning he sits just one spot outside of qualifying. Moore is no stranger to the state stage, however, as he has already qualified in the long jump after breaking that school record earlier this season.

The personal bests came in bunches across both squads. On the girls' side, Viviana Chavez turned in a strong all-around day, recording personal bests in both the 60 meters (8.70 in prelims) and the 200 meters (28.42). Abby Palazzola posted a new PR in the 1600, finishing in 6:29.19, while Melanie Verdin and Natalia Sanchez both hit personal bests in the 3200, crossing in 14:56.72 and 16:45.41 respectively. Lara Wimmer posted a new mark in the 800, and Eleyanna Arkel rounded out a strong day for the girls' sprinters with a personal best of 32.67 in the 200 meters.

Autumn Roberts had a standout afternoon as well, finishing fourth in the 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 9.75 and placing 14th in the 60-meter dash prelims with an 8.59. Her hurdles performance has her currently ranked #19 in the state — just three spots outside of the top 16 that advance to the state meet.

The girls' 4x200 relay team of Hood, Chavez, Miller and Roberts capped off a strong day by posting a season-best time, a promising sign as the program looks ahead to the postseason.

The boys matched the energy. Amarian Miller made his high school debut in the high jump and immediately made it count, clearing 5 feet, 8 inches for a sixth-place finish in his very first high school competition in the event.Amari Ammons had a productive afternoon, posting personal bests in the 200 meters (26.28), the 400 meters (59.27), and the shot put (33 feet, 10.5 inches).

Dante Tinsley and Troy Jones each recorded new marks in the 200 meters, finishing in 24.15 and 24.18 respectively, and Jones also added a personal best of 55.95 in the 400. Amare Tidmore turned in a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles with a prelim time of 11.78.

The boys' 4x200 relay team of Jones, Miller, Tinsley and Moore also had a strong showing, with their performance currently placing them at #20 in the state rankings.

Saturday's Dave Wottle Open served as the final indoor opportunity for athletes still pursuing a state qualifying standard. With Moore at #17 in the triple jump and Roberts at #19 in the 60 hurdles, the coming days will be worth watching as the state rankings are finalized ahead of the March 6 championship.
