February 1, 2026 - Oberlin, Ohio - The Lorain High School track and field teams delivered an impressive performance at the Oberlin Indoor Meet #3, combining podium finishes with a wave of personal records that signals strong momentum as the indoor season progresses.
The Titans recorded 11 personal bests across both squads while claiming five first-place finishes and multiple podium positions in a competitive field.
Boys Lead with Dominant Performances
Junior sprinter Jazion Moore once again proved why he's one of the area's most versatile athletes, capturing first place in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 6.75 inches. Moore also took third in the 60-meter dash finals (7.33) after winning the prelims earlier in the day, and added a third-place finish in the high jump (5-3). His ability to compete at such a high level in three different events in one meet showcases exceptional athletic versatility.
Senior Troy Jones had a breakthrough day, setting personal bests in both the 200-meter dash (24.68, 3rd place) and the 400-meter dash (56.13, 2nd place). His performance in the 400 was particularly impressive, shaving significant time off his previous best and demonstrating the results of his consistent training.
The boys' 4x200-meter relay team captured second place with a time of 1:36.83, demonstrating the depth of Lorain's sprint corps.
Junior Camren Spraggins continued his dominance in the hurdles, taking second in the 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 9.73 seconds. He also contributed strong performances in the 200m (11th) and 400m (5th).
Junior Abimelec Rivera and sophomore Amare Tidmore both set personal records in the 400-meter dash, with Rivera clocking 1:01.16 (9th place) and Tidmore running 1:07.84 (19th). Tidmore also posted a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles prelims (11.64).
Senior Amari Ammons rounded out the boys' personal bests with a throw of 28-10 in the shot put.
Girls Dominate Hurdles, Sweep Relay Gold
The Lady Titans' biggest story came in the 60-meter hurdles, where they owned the event. Junior Autumn Roberts blazed to victory in both the prelims (10.04) and finals (10.19), while junior J'Me Hood secured second place in the finals (11.36) after running 11.26 in the prelims. The one-two finish highlighted Lorain's strength in the technical event.
The girls' 4x200-meter relay team claimed the top spot on the podium with a winning time of 2:00.60, showcasing the team's speed and chemistry.
The Lady Titans recorded seven personal bests on the day. Freshman Karlee Patterson improved her 200-meter time to 31.18 (17th place), while sophomore Jayla King set PRs in both the 200m (34.51) and long jump (11-10.5).
Freshman Ja'Myriah Oliver posted a personal best in the 400-meter dash, running 1:13.97 for ninth place. She also competed in three other events, demonstrating her versatility as a first-year athlete.
Junior Janelle Bonty achieved personal records in both the 400-meter dash (1:18.91, 14th) and long jump (11-11, 8th), capping a strong all-around performance.
Building Momentum
With 44 total entries across both teams and personal bests coming from athletes in sprints, distance, hurdles, and field events, the meet demonstrated the breadth of talent in the Lorain program. The 11 personal bests indicate that athletes are improving and competing with confidence at this point in the season.
The underclassmen made their presence felt, with freshmen and sophomores accounting for five of the 11 personal bests, a promising sign for the program's future.
The Titans will look to build on this momentum as they continue their indoor season, with several athletes now positioned to make noise at upcoming championship meets.
