December 13, 2025 - Akron, Ohio -The Lorain High School Titans delivered outstanding performances at the prestigious Akron Rust-Buster HS Open this weekend, with multiple personal bests and season bests lighting up the scoreboard. After shaking off the rust in their season opener, the Titans proved they're ready to compete with the best in Northeast Ohio.
Building Momentum
Head coaches are thrilled about the progress the team has made since the first meet. "Our athletes have been working incredibly hard in practice," said the coaching staff.
The Titans brought a balanced squad of 17 athletes—9 girls and 8 boys—representing Lorain across sprints, distance, hurdles, and field events, and they didn't disappoint.
Record-Breaking Performances
Distance Development
Micah Eskridge was the story of the day, tackling an ambitious triple and delivering across the board. The gutsy distance runner posted a personal best of 11:34 in the 3200m, then followed up with a solid 6:20.43 in the 1600m—a grueling double that showcased his championship mettle.
The Titans sets a school record in the 4x800M with a time of 9:58.08, with the team of Eskridge, DeWitt, Gil and Rivera.
Melanie Verdin answered the bell in the girls' 3200m with a personal best of 16:08.91, proving that Lorain's distance program is on the rise.
In the 1600m, Esteban Gil turned heads with a personal best of 5:55.28, breaking the six-minute barrier and establishing himself as one of Lorain's top middle-distance threats.
Elizabeth Ruic showed tremendous heart in her double, posting a personal best of 3:10.01 in the 800m and running 7:32.67 in the 1600m
Sprint Explosions
Jazion Moore brought his explosive athleticism to multiple events, blazing to a personal best of 23.56 in the 200m and launching 21'4" in the long jump—a performance that turns heads across any conference.
Viviana Chavez was a workhorse, competing in two events and posting a personal best of 29.63 in the 200m and a season best of 1:08.40 in the 400m
Maurice Loppe showed his versatility with a personal best of 1:02.16 in the 400m and a solid 17'6" in the long jump.
Hurdles and Field Events
Camren Spraggins broke into the 9-second club with a personal best of 9.99 in the 60m hurdles - just missing the sub-10 barrier but posting a time that makes him a threat at any meet. He also ran a personal best of 1:03.03 in the 400m.
J'Me Hood continued her triple-threat performance, posting a personal best of 11.16 in the 60m hurdles and jumping 12'8" in the long jump while also competing in the 60m dash.
Middle Distance Strength
Abimelec Rivera ran a season best of 2:33.29 in the 800m, showing the consistency that makes relay teams championship-caliber.
The Rust-Buster Challenge
"This meet was all about competing hard and supporting each other," the coaches emphasized. "We're not just building athletes—we're building a family. These performances show what happens when talent meets hard work."
