Brunswick, Ohio — May 13, 2026 — The Lorain Titans opened the Greater Cleveland Conference Track and Field Championships at Brunswick High School on Wednesday, sending athletes across both rosters into a first-day schedule that tested depth, versatility, and competitive resolve. With conference titles on the line and a deep field assembled from across the GCC, the Titans delivered performances that signal they intend to be a factor when the dust settles. Junior Autumn Roberts announced herself as a premier hurdler in the conference. Junior Jazion Moore and sophomore Donte Tinsley II reinforced Lorain's dominance in the horizontal jumps. Senior Brajhia Phillips put Lorain on the board in the throws. And across the card, Titan athletes accumulated points, set personal bests, and competed with the kind of edge that postseason demands.
Roberts Commands the Hurdles
If Tuesday belonged to one Lorain athlete, it was junior Autumn Roberts. She did not simply compete in the hurdles — she owned them. Roberts posted a PB15.46 in the 100-meter hurdles to qualify second overall and advance directly to the championship final — one of the top times in the conference this season and a performance that puts her in contention for a GCC title. She then came back to run second PB of 49.75 in the 300-meter hurdles, again qualifying second and punching her ticket to the final in dominant fashion. Two events. Two top-two qualifications. Two championship final berths. Roberts has been one of the premier hurdlers in this region all spring, and on the biggest stage of the conference season, she delivered her best. Junior Jme Hood added depth to Lorain's hurdle corps, qualifying for the 100-meter hurdle final with a 17.78, while also competing in the 300 hurdles (59.91) and the 200-meter dash (29.11), giving Lorain multiple scoring threats in the barriers heading into the final day.
Phillips Puts Points on the Board in the Shot Put
Senior Brajhia Phillips gave the Lorain girls their first team points of the championship, placing third in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 7.5 inches to score six points for the Titans. It was a focused, professional performance under the pressure of conference competition — and with Phillips delivering in the throws, Lorain's team score got off to a meaningful start.
Moore and Tinsley Dominate the Long Jump
Lorain's one-two punch in the horizontal jumps was on full display at Brunswick. Junior Jazion Moore placed sixth in the boys long jump at 21 feet, 4.25 inches — an elite mark that scores three points for the Titans and cements Moore's standing as one of the top horizontal jumpers in the GCC. Sophomore Donte Tinsley II was right behind him in seventh at 20 feet, 6 inches — two points more for the Lorain ledger. The combination of Moore and Tinsley in the long jump continues to be one of the most formidable one-two threats in the region.
Spraggins Advances to Hurdle Final
On the boys side of the hurdles, junior Cameron Spraggins qualified seventh for the 110-meter hurdle championship final with a time of 16.13 — putting Lorain in a position to score in the barriers when the final runs tomorrow. Spraggins also competed in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking a 46.11 in the prelims. Junior Kaiden Corbin added depth with an 17.82 in the 110 hurdles and a 48.52 in the 300 hurdles, while junior Brayden Melendez competed in the 300 hurdles with a 49.71. The boys hurdle group is young, developing, and gaining valuable conference championship experience.
Chavez Leads the Girls Sprint Group
Junior Viviana Chavez continued her strong spring form in Brunswick, qualifying seventh in the 200-meter dash with a 27.24 to advance to the championship final — putting herself in scoring position heading into Day 2. She also competed in the 400-meter dash, clocking a 1:06.38. Freshman Janelle Butler ran a PB 13.79 in the 100-meter dash (14th) and 29.06 in the 200 (14th). Sophomore Niya Chapman posted a 13.88 in the 100 meters (15th). Freshman Jada Hood contributed a 14.66 in the 100-meter dash. The Lorain girls sprint group is young across much of its depth, and Tuesday at Brunswick was valuable exposure for a core that will grow into a formidable unit.
Relay Groups Compete with Grit
Both the boys and girls 4x800-meter relay teams opened the championship with solid outings. The girls squad of Elizabeth Ruic, Folakemi Fasola, Abby Palazzola, and Lara Wimmer placed eighth in 12:20.22, earning one team point and demonstrating the distance depth Lorain has developed this season. The boys relay team of Abimelec Rivera, Jaaron Kidd, Micah Eskridge, and J'Marion Dewitt placed seventh in 9:14.56 for two points, giving the Lorain boys a contribution from the distance corps on Day 1.
The Rest of the Lorain Card
Across the full card, Lorain athletes competed with effort and purpose. On the boys side, junior Jeramiah Daniels ran an 11.54 in the 100-meter dash prelims. Senior Jacob Ford clocked a 54.60 in the 400-meter dash, while senior Troy Jones contributed a 57.04 and junior Raul Valentin a 59.09. In the discus, senior Anakin Davis threw 106-0, freshman Famane Howell added 105-11, and senior Amari Ammons contributed 102 feet — giving Lorain a three-deep presence in the throws circle. Junior Amare Tidmore ran the 110 hurdles in 20.26, adding depth to the hurdle group. The postseason is a test not just of individual talent but of program-wide investment — and on Day 1 at the GCC Championships, Lorain showed up with athletes across the roster ready to compete.
Day 2 of the GCC Championships awaits. Roberts has two championship finals to run. Chavez returns in the 200. Spraggins will compete in the 110-meter hurdle final. The Titans are in position — and when the gun fires on Friday at Brunswick, Lorain will be ready.
