Vermilion, Ohio — May 8, 2026 — The Lorain Titans traveled to Vermilion, squaring off against a field that included Firelands, Brookside, North Ridgeville, North Olmstead, Oberlin, Elyria Catholic, Keystone, Madison Comprehensive, and the host Vermilion Sailors. The Titans arrived with momentum off a strong Senior Night performance — but did so Friday without many of their senior athletes, who were celebrating prom at German's Villa.
That the Titans still produced some of the most impressive individual results of their season speaks volumes about the depth and talent running through this program right now.
Junior Jazion Moore was simply in a class of his own, producing one of the finest multi-event performances seen from a Lorain athlete this spring. Junior Ava Miller turned in a breakout afternoon in the field events. Junior Autumn Roberts proved once again that she is among the premier hurdlers in the region. And sophomore Donte Tinsley II continued to emerge as one of the most dangerous sprint threats on the boys side. Friday at Vermilion was another statement afternoon for a Titans program that is hitting its stride at exactly the right time — and doing it shorthanded.
Moore Does Everything
If there was a single performer who defined Lorain's day at Vermilion, it was Jazion Moore. The junior did not just compete in multiple events — he won them. Moore took third in the 100 meters in 11.10, a personal best, in a field loaded with some of the fastest sprinters in the area. He came back to run 22.37 in the 200 meters for third place. He then lined up in the 400 meters and ran a personal best 51.65 for third — an elite time that signals Moore is developing into one of the most complete sprint performers in this part of the state. And when the field events came around, Moore won the long jump outright at 21 feet, 7 inches — the best jump of the day by a comfortable margin.
Three top-three finishes on the track, a personal best in the 100, a personal best in the 400, and an event win in the long jump. On the road. Against an invitational field. Without a full roster behind him. Moore entered the spring as one of Lorain's most talented athletes. He is leaving Friday's meet as one of the most complete performers in the region — and he did it on a day when his program needed him most.
Miller Breaks Out in the Field
Junior Ava Miller had a day that demands attention. She placed third in the girls long jump at 14 feet, 6.5 inches — a result that would have been competitive at most invitationals in this area — and added an 11th-place finish in the high jump at J4' 0". She also ran a personal best 28.40 in the 200 meters for 14th place in a deep and competitive sprint field. Three events. Three solid results. A personal best on the track.
Roberts Proves Her Regional Standing
Junior Autumn Roberts arrived at Vermilion as one of the top hurdlers in the area, and she left with her reputation fully intact. Roberts placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.99 and added a 1st place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.92— competing across both hurdle distances in a single afternoon against a deep field. Junior Jme Hood complemented Roberts with a personal best 52.86 in the 300-meter hurdles for eighth, and the pair combined with Janelle Butler and Viviana Chavez to bring home a fourth-place finish in the 4x100 relay in 52.09.
In the 4x400m.relqy, the team of Arkel, Folakemi, Butler and Patterson finished a respectable 7th.
Tinsley Continues to Emerge
Sophomore Donte Tinsley II has become one of the most reliable performers on the Lorain boys roster, and Friday was another chapter in that story. Tinsley placed fifth in the long jump at 19 feet, 3 inches — the same event where Moore won — giving Lorain two athletes in the top five of what was a competitive field. He also ran 22.57 in the 200 meters for fifth place, continuing a pattern of strong sprint performances from a sophomore who still has two full seasons ahead of him. The combination of Moore and Tinsley in the sprints and the long jump gives Lorain a one-two punch in the horizontal jumps that few programs in this area can match — and on a day without the full senior class, both of them carried extra weight with distinction.
The Rest of the Lorain Card
The Titans produced results across both rosters beyond their headliners, and given the circumstances of a prom-depleted roster, the depth on display was encouraging. On the boys side, Cameron Spraggins placed second in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.11 and added a 10th-place finish in the 300 hurdles. Kaiden Corbin set a personal best 16.89 in the 110-meter hurdles for sixth. Abimelec Rivera set a personal best 2:15.03 in the 800 meters and a personal best 12:10.84 in the 3200. Justin Clark set a personal best 59.59 in the 400. Jahzier Cannon and Jaden Mosley each cleared 5 feet in the high jump.
On the girls side, Viviana Chavez placed fifth in the 100 in 13.20 and fourth in the 200 in 27.17, continuing her strong spring form. Folakemi Fasola competed across three distance events, setting a personal best 6:42.11 in the 1600 meters. Sa'Nija King placed 13th in the long jump. India Davis and Jazzy Hamilton-Holt contributed in the throws.
The postseason is close. The seniors will be back. And when this full roster is together, the Titans will are a formidable team.
