Strongsville, Ohio — April 29, 2026 - The Lorain Titans traveled to Strongsville on Wednesday for a dual meet and returned home with a performance full of highlights — highlighted by a dominant girls relay sweep, a solid throws performance from senior Brajhia Phillips, and a long jump one-two punch from the boys that has become a signature of this Titans squad.
The Girls Headliner
Junior Autumn Roberts once again proved she is one of the most versatile athletes in the region. Roberts won the 300 meter hurdles outright in 52.15, then anchored multiple relay units throughout the day — including legs on the winning 4x100 and 4x200 squads. Her ability to contribute in both individual events and relays continues to make her one of the most valuable athletes on the Lorain roster heading into the postseason.
Girls Relay Success
If there was a theme for the Lorain girls on Wednesday, it was relay excellence. The Titans won three of four relay events on the day. The 4x100 squad of Ava Miller, Jme Hood, Autumn Roberts, and Viviana Chavez led wire-to-wire in 52.71. The 4x200 unit of Ava Miller, Autumn Roberts, Janelle Butler, and Viviana Chavez crossed first in 1:51.75. In the distance relays, the 4x800 team of Melanie Verdin, Elizabeth Ruic, Abby Palazzola, and Folakemi Fasola won going away in 12:22.11. Lorain also placed second and third in the 4x400, with the A squad of Elizabeth Ruic, Folakemi Fasola, Melanie Verdin, and Abby Palazzola running 5:04.50.
Other Girls Standouts
Senior Brajhia Phillips put together one of the finest throwing performances of her career, winning the shot put at 30-08.00 and placing second in discus at 98-05 — providing Lorain valuable points in two events that are often dominated by larger programs. Abby Palazzola swept the distance events, winning the 1600 in 6:26.65 and anchoring the winning 4x800 relay. Freshman Janelle Butler had a breakout day, setting a personal best in the 100 meters at 14.22 and adding solid relay contributions throughout the afternoon. Junior Jme Hood was equally busy, placing second in both the 100 meter hurdles at 18.66 and the 300 meter hurdles, and contributing to two relay wins.
Boys Long Jump One-Two
For the second time this spring, Donte Tinsley II and Jazion Moore gave Lorain a commanding one-two finish in the long jump. Tinsley took the top spot with a leap of 20-04.00, with Moore right behind at 20-00.50 — both well clear of the field. The duo has established themselves as among the best long jump tandems in the area, and their consistency in that event continues to be a major point-scoring weapon for the Titans.
Boys Distance and Hurdles
The Titans showed significant depth in the middle distance and hurdles events. Junior Cameron Spraggins set a personal best in the 110 meter hurdles, placing third in 16.43, and added a third-place finish in the 300 meter hurdles at 46.40. In a loaded 800 meter field, Lorain placed five runners, led by junior Micah Eskridge's third-place personal best of 2:25.81 and Pablo Rodriguez's personal best 2:27.74 in fifth. The boys 4x800 B squad of Abimelec Rivera, Micah Eskridge, Jeaun Sanchez, and J'Marion Dewitt won the event outright in 9:42.12, with the A team also finishing third.
Boys Throws
Freshman Famane Howell continued his promising development in the throws, placing fourth in discus at 95-10 and sixth in shot put at 28-08.50, earning a personal best in the latter. Senior Anakin Davis also had a strong day, posting personal bests in both shot put (29-09.00, 5th) and discus (85-01, 5th).
Looking Ahead
The Titans return to action this Friday at the Avon Reynolds Invitational before competing Saturday at the Vermilion JV Invitational. With championship season approaching, Wednesday's dual provided valuable competitive experience across the roster — and a number of personal bests suggest the program is peaking at the right time.
